This summer, the Art Gallery features works from our own fine art collection alongside loans from national organisations including Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, Imperial War Museum, National Museum Wales, Tate and many more. Immerse yourself in paintings, ceramics and sculptures dating from the nineteenth century to the present day.

If you are inspired by the artwork on display (and aged 18+), take part in our Inspirations: Poetry and Creative Writing Competition. Winning entries will be displayed at The Atkinson and awarded a prize donated by The Arts Society. Entry forms can be downloaded online or collected from the gallery. Submission deadline 17 Aug.

Creative kids can take part in free Make it! craft workshops every Thursday throughout August. There’s something for all ages, with all materials supplied and all for free! In the Young Curators Summer Sessions young people (aged 14-18) are invited to work with industry professionals to develop their creative skills and understanding of museum collections.

You can now explore our museum and art galleries with our digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app. Our guide takes you behind the scenes with exclusive content from artists, curators, and more. Use the app to plan your visit, then dive deeper into your favourite works at home –or anywhere, anytime!

Celebrate Southport’s fantastic heritage as we take part in England’s largest festival of history and culture; Heritage Open Days 6-15 Sep. Don’t forget, you can discover stories from across Sefton in our local history and Egyptology Museum. A range of interactive displays and creative activities have been designed to help visitors of all ages have fun whilst exploring.

Our traditional Theatre and dynamic Studio space present an outstanding programme of music, comedy and performing arts. Highlights on stage this summer include a beautiful production of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice (1 Aug), a thrilling performance in The Haunting of Blaine Manor (7 Sep) and a spectacular one man show Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act (29 Sep).

On the first Wednesday of every month, Grateful Fred’s: Americana & Roots Music provide a wonderful evening of acoustic music from local and international artists. In partnership with L’Orchestra dell’ Arte, Cake & Classical Music lunchtime concerts take place on the first Monday of each month.
