Visit Southport: ‘Another Place’ by Antony Gormley at Crosby Beach
MySefton News: Sefton Council announces photography exhibition to mark 20 years of Crosby’s iron men
Nicknamed ‘The Iron Men’ by locals, Antony Gormley’s spectacular Another Place installation on Crosby Beach celebrates its 20th Anniversary. The 100 cast-iron figures staring out to sea replicate Gormley’s own body, and harnesses the ebb and flow of the tide to explore man’s relationship with nature.
In this exhibition, local photographer Ron Davies shares his ‘Men for all Seasons’ series, taken over two decades along the foreshore. The photographs capture the spirit of the sculptures, using the figures as foreground objects against the dramatic weather conditions and skies.
“It is the motion of sand sea and sky, with the Iron Men fixed in their ceaseless stare out to sea, that makes each visit unique” – Ron Davies
Due to essential maintenance in the Art Gallery, the ’20 Years of Another Place’ will now open on Saturday 13 December 2025 and close at 4pm on Saturday 21 February 2026 (previously 29 Nov – 28 Feb). We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding.
