The Atkinson is undergoing a beautiful transformation, and it’s all thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers. They’ve taken it upon themselves to cultivate two vibrant flowerbeds bursting with wildflowers, creating a haven for pollinators and a splash of colour for the community. This will increase biodiversity and attract solitary bees, honey bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators.

Through their dedication, diverse plant species are thriving. They have kept to a limited colour palette of green, purple, yellow and pink – choosing the colours most attractive to the pollinating insects.

These flowerbeds hopefully look attractive to you. Please don’t worry if you spot some weeds, otherwise known as native wild flowers, that they have self-seeded there.  We are monitoring them to ensure they don’t get too invasive and aim to leave them for the insects to enjoy. We are happy to let nature take its course, providing a feast for the resident insect population.

The volunteers’ passion and commitment demonstrates the power of collective action in nurturing and preserving the natural world. They hope you find the range of flowers pleasing and that if you take a moment to watch you will see the bed is “buzzing” with insect activity. It’s a reminder of the delicate balance of nature and the vital role pollinators play in our world.
