The Atkinson wins People’s Choice: Entertainment Venue of the Year at the Southport BID Star Awards

The Atkinson has been named People’s Choice: Entertainment Venue of the Year at the prestigious Southport BID Star Awards 2025. Rated ‘Very Good’ by VisitEngland and ranked #1 for Things to Do in Southport on TripAdvisor, The Atkinson continues to thrive as Sefton’s leading cultural hub—offering an engaging day-to-night programme for locals, tourists, and arts enthusiasts alike.

Now in its fourth year, the Your Southport Star Awards celebrate the businesses that shape the heart of Southport. Organised by Southport BID, the 2025 ceremony took place at The Grand on Lord Street, with over 200 guests and more than 100 businesses participating across 11 categories. Tens of thousands of public votes were cast in the People’s Choice Awards, while a panel of judges determined winners in the new Business Leaders Awards.

The Atkinson’s win in the highly competitive Entertainment Venue category is a testament to its deep community roots and commitment to excellence. “We’re incredibly honoured and grateful to everyone who voted,” said Charlotte Buckingham, Marketing Manager at The Atkinson. “This award reflects the passion and support of our community, and our team’s dedication to creating a welcoming, inspiring place for all.”

Rooted in Southport’s strong community spirit, The Atkinson plays a vital role in connecting people through arts, culture, and heritage. It offers visitors opportunities to be entertained, inspired, and uplifted, contributing to local wellbeing and cultural enrichment.

This award follows another achievement: The Atkinson has once again retained its VisitEngland Quality Assured Visitor Attraction Accreditation, with a score increase to 89% (up from 88%). Staffing received a standout score of 98%, highlighting the team’s continued excellence in customer service.

“The content and variety of the attraction continue to be of a high standard, with strong connections to the local area and its heritage… all contributing to a memorable day for visitors.” – VisitEngland Assessor

Located in the heart of Southport, The Atkinson features a traditional theatre, a versatile studio space, and hosts a vibrant programme of music, comedy, and performance. It also houses a local history museum, an Egyptology collection, and an art gallery showcasing over 3,500 artworks and 25,000 artefacts. Beyond the arts, The Atkinson is a vital community space, home to Southport Library, the independent A Great Little Place café run by Autism Initiatives UK, and a gift shop supporting local artists and makers.

Whether you’re seeking entertainment, inspiration, or connection—The Atkinson offers a warm welcome and an unforgettable experience.
